Sleep, Don’t Weep - Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan
There are a lot of reasons not to write your random thoughts down and send them out into the internet to be viewed and shared and judged by the world.
One of my reasons is summarised below:
I have a lot of words, many of them are quite mad.
I can’t remember how I first collected these words. It is possible I am stealing other people’s thoughts. It is certain I am plagiarising my own self because much of my ranting is the result of years of discussion and manic interaction. The people I spend time with simply add to the process by either encouraging me, or backing away looking frightened, or adding their own thoughts. Which then become my thoughts. Which I then shamelessly incorporate into my own mind without any real credit for those who developed them.
I also watch a lot of tv and read a lot of articles. The information goes in, but I have a rubbish filing system. I don’t remember where anything came from and generally I don’t use footnotes. Unless it is my own footnote to tangentalise my own discussion. I think I just made up a word, but who can really be sure?
Now, it is likely that most of those people who I have borrowed from would prefer not to be credited. This may be because I have taken their perfectly rational, off hand remarks, warped and moulded them and developed them into the ravings of a mad woman. But I do want to make clear that I understand that anything I say here is not wholly original, nor do I live in a vacuum although I really would like to sometimes. That would be awesome.
All the stuff that seems like it’s plagiarised, is something I made. I made it using google. That phrase is copyright.
Enjoy your internet, people.
